Using Visual Thinking for Effective Teaching and Learning Essay
1. Teachers can extend their teaching repertoire to honour all the intelligences, and teach in ways that help students develop strength in all the intelligences;
2. The curriculum can be broadened to give value and status to all the intelligences;
3. Every student’s gifts can be validated by recognizing their unique pattern of intelligences.
There are a lot of tests and quizzes for identifying type of intelligence. Here are presented some of them.
The first test is referred to Multiple Intelligences based on Howard Gardner’s MI Theory. This test is made for learners of all ages, and it is …show more content…
The second test is also referred to Multiple Intelligences. This assessment is developed by Dr. Thomas Armstrong. This form helps learners to identify which of their intelligences are the strongest. It can be made either by learners themselves, or by their tutors. The task for students: read each statement carefully. If it is absolutely about the learners, they mark a ‘T’ (True), if it is not, they mark a ‘F’ (False). If the statement is sometimes true, sometimes false, they leave it blank. The assessment consists of 30 statements. When the work is done, it is time to score the answers. The learners place a check mark by each item they marked as ‘True’. A total of four in any of the categories A through E indicates strong ability. In categories F and G a score of one or more means that the learner has abilities as well. (Appendix C)
The example 2 (see example 2) presents the learner’s strength of Intelligence. They are Musical Intelligence, Spatial Intelligence and Interpersonal Intelligence.
When we know the type of intelligence of the learners, we can find the appropriate type of learning for them. Students preferentially take in and process information in different ways: by seeing and hearing, reflecting and acting, reasoning logically and intuitively, analyzing and visualizing, steadily and in fits and starts. Teaching methods also vary.
