William Shakespeare, a creative literary artist, impacted his audience with the essence of love. Based on his play, A Midsummer Nights Dream, Lysander a main character explicitly states, "The course of love never runs smooth," expressing an opinion easily relatable to the modern generation. The story of an hour, written by Kate Chopin, is another literary work that easily expresses the same theme. With this in mind, both works revolve around the aspect of love and it's challenges that some May or may not overcome. Love is much more than an emotion, it's another world, another life that overcomes oneself into something unknown. The story starts with a fight about love. Through mistake, a magic potion is brought upon Lysander and his love for Hermia transforms into love for Helena.
“I pray you, though you mock me, gentlemen, Let her not hurt me: I was never curst;

I am a right maid for my cowardice: Let her not strike me. You perhaps may think, 

Because she is something lower than myself,

When the potion is brought upon Lysander it is also brought upon Demetrius who is in search of Hermia in the woods. Now Demetrius is also in love with Helena. Helena now confused as to why is this happening to her, and why is it two of the men that love Hermia now all of a sudden they are in love with her. Love in this case is a series of circles that this magically setting causes. Lysander is one the bravest lovers to ever be, and he says, “The course of true love never did run smooth” (I,i, 135). Throughout the play Lysander is trying to be with Hermia but there is always something that gets in the way. From the beginning, Lysander is trying to convince Hermia’s father to let him marry her, but no, Egeus does not want that.
