Technology has grown in more ways than one, where it has reached the point of becoming a part of many other’s way of living; where dependence of it has become a habit in today’s world. People have pointed out that their ability to spell out words has become difficult because of their reliance on a computer to aid them, along with other accusations that blame’s technology for weakening society. Technology, in a way, has become mankind’s crutch, and without it, man will stumble. It has even been assumed that technology will ruin man and eventually lead them into extinction. Throughout the day it still stayed true to its duties like a servant forever submissive to their “gods” (Bradbury 25). The house’s obliviousness and lack of understanding radiated solitude as it served a non-existent family. Readers, of course, are aware that the family died from a nuclear bomb: “The entire west face of the house was black, save for five places”
(Bradbury 25), but the house was not even aware of the explosion happening to begin with. It is not that the house was continuing on without care, as the poem in the story by Sarah Teasdale may infer to: “Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree” (Bradbury 27), rather it was programmed to serve the family. The house became an empty shell once the family disintegrated, and it continued on with its service because it was built for what it was functioned to do. And in serving the family, protecting itself was also included for their imminent return. Bradbury gave the house character when it expressed “mechanical paranoia” (Bradbury 25) towards the living creatures that came towards it and shouted “‘Fire!’” into the empty household when no one was there to listen. When character was revealed from the house, one is able to conjure emotions towards it, as if it were something living.
The time between the family’s demise and the start of the story is not mentioned, so it is unbeknownst as to how long the house
