Macbeth, a tragedy that was written by William Shakespeare in the 17th century is a play that expresses how ambition destroys people and how a strong pull for desire of power can have over a man. Macbeth is a tragic hero and had it not been for the witches prophecies and his wife's ambition and interaction with him, the play would be been ended very differently. From the beginning, Macbeth is doomed by fate to descend into the madness, which in the end he did. Even though it was the witches who planted the seeds in Macbeth’s head, Lady Macbeth was the one who watered them and helped them grow. Lady Macbeth can be described as the driving force behind the murder of Duncan. Yes Macbeth had considered this plan before but he never initially pushed it. In Act 1, scene 7 Macbeth tells his wife, “We will proceed no further in this business.” but his wife convinces him to go through the plan by questioning his manhood, “When you durst do it, then you were a man; and to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man.” Lady Macbeth helps fill his mind with ideas of power and with Macbeth's tragic flaw, it is impossible for Macbeth to resist the temptation but ultimately what separates Macbeth from just being a villain to a tragic hero is his sense of guilt and his knowledge of the consequences of his actions. His emotions and guilt end up driving him crazy, along with Lady Macbeth. She ends up committing suicide and Macbeth gets killed by his own people.
