Many students have the erroneous view that anything; anything at all in the world is better than their school life. They dread the exams, loath the note taking and the bore of a teacher’s lecture. And yet, they have not realized how cradled and protected they are from society. In short, they don’t yet understand that fact that they are among the luckiest of age groups- never to worry about where monetary income is from, never to worry about when to ration their money spending. However, going to an internship changes all that. The sheer difference in an office atmosphere versus a classroom’s is enough to jolt a student awake, enough to clear the fog in front of him and make him appreciate his education. Being a well-taught student of music theory in the school, I was eager to share my own learning experiences with more students, and so I asked to be a summer music teacher. As summer appeared to be a period of calm and peace, with a majority of the students on vacation, I needed to do other things to fulfill my one hundred and twenty hours. So, I ended up as an office assistant, eager to help with any heavy workload. For the first few weeks my role was confined to an office worker. Consequently, I came to know my co-workers/ supervisors fairly well. They assigned me work only requiring a moderate amount of brainwork, but are also very tedious and require long stretches of concentration. I didn’t find them to be of any enjoyment, as they included me adding up total revenues, phoning multitudes of parents, and cutting out barcodes. After such long-term exposure to such roles, I began pitying my co-workers. After all, in work they could only look forward to doing such things, and week after week they would be faced with such similar schedules. And yet, they never cease their work for a break. During “work hours”, they always diligently sit at their desks and occasionally chat amiably while continuing.
