In today's modern world, television is the most popular and recognized form of media and most homes in the western and developed worlds own one. That small (in some cases rather large) box sitting in your lounge is your connection to the outside world. It is an indispensable item and many of us cannot imagine life without it. The TV can be good such as to bring news to us when it matters. However, the average time spent watching TV is about 4:30 hours per day. The display of a standard TV set turns the video signal into particles call electrons. These electrons are then passed through a picture tube. The beam that comes out paints the pixels on the screen in a series of rows to create a picture. The sound travels through the loudspeakers to reproduce sound. LCD and plasma TVs use a different method. They do not use a tube and the electron beams that pass through. LCD stands for liquid crystal display. Liquid crystal is a liquid with a few solid parts inside. When an electrical current is passed through it causes to move the solid part to create a picture Plasma television has tiny coloured lights that contain plasma which is a gas. Electrical currents cause the gas to give off light which forms a picture.
The History of Television: Inventors in Great Britain and the United States made the first demonstrations of TV in the 1920s. However, the first working of a TV set appeared in the 1930s. In 1936 the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) started the world’s first TV programming. The United States started to broadcast in 1941. The TV set only became popular after World War II. The television set were in black and white from the 1940s to 1950s. Colour television appeared in the 1950s and digital arrived in the 1990s.
