Abstract

I believe that greatness is within all of us; we just need a little help finding it sometimes. I have come to understand that one caring person can make all the difference in someone else’s life. As I venture further into my teaching career, I hope to help my students to Education is a journey of seeking answers and experiencing. Every human being has the ability to learn and apply meaning to education. Learners should not be encouraged to surrender to the ideals and beliefs of a set curriculum. From my own perspective and experience, the system of education is in dire need of passion. I have had the opportunity to learn in multiple school settings throughout my life, which allowed me to experience education in various ways. By attending eleven school settings thus far in my life, I have seen the differences between a public and a Christian education, large class settings and small class settings, schools that emphasize math and science over other subjects and schools that do or do not hire well-trained teachers. Some structures base their attention on the school as a whole, whereas others solidify their emphasis on the students as individual learners. By the time I finished second grade I had been enrolled in four different schools. I would be attending a different school after my family moved to Georgia in the middle of second grade. The administration wanted to hold me back a year when I went to my new school, because I was behind in reading and writing skills. I was not held back and, as a result of teachers who cared about my journey in education along with the motivation and support that I received in the classroom, I was able to become an honor roll student and later graduate high school in the top fifteen percent of my class.
