Religion plays a significant role in people’s lives as it guides the relationship between God and man, as observed in the various doctrines found in the Quran, the Bible, and many other religious publications. One of Christian religions, the Roman Catholic Church, has used the Bible to show that Jesus is the Christ, son of God, and Lord. The Church is an old religious institution established long before the civilization of many nations on earth. Moreover, it has a huge followership on many continents all over the world. The Catechism of the Catholic Church was promulgated by Pope John Paul II in the early 1990s. As a doctrine, it stipulates the beliefs that Catholic followers should observe. The arguments in this essay will seek to highlight what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says about Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and Lord.
In the New Testament, Jesus Christ as a character takes center stage in many parts of the Bible. In every account, his is revered and seen as the savior who came to the world to save the sinful. The name Jesus in Hebrew is translated as “God saves.” (CCC 430) God 's only messenger, Gabriel, at Annunciation gave the name to the child even before his birth. His name has two meanings, in the sense that it expresses Christ’s Identity as well as his purpose and mission on earth.
