While watching cable television there are around four to five minutes breaks of commercials we encounter. Most of these commercials are about new reality shows. If they are not about new upcoming ones, there are the dates for when the current ones would make a comeback. Reality television has been around since the 1940s (Slocum). The shows that were on years ago were a lot less vulgar, then what we are used to today. Too me, it seems that reality T.V. continues to go down the wrong path. Yet, some still think that there are some positive effects on others from watching these types of programs. To begin with, all you see on television is supposedly real. I say supposedly, because most if not all, is scripted. Scripted is something said or done that was planned before (MacMillan Dictionary). Meaning, it’s fake! So are we really watching reality television or are we watching something they want us not to see so they preplan everything? With this, I want you to rethink whenever you are watch T.V. is it true or not. Can one really hook up with different people and not get caught by their partner? Can we really lose 50 pounds in 3 months according to the “Biggest Loser”? Sending these types of messages to all viewers give most people hope to believe in their dreams. Though there are positive effects of reality television, I think that the negative seem to way out the good. Reality stars are becoming role models to teens rather than their own peers or parent, is totally absurd…
