The journey of enlightenment is often the road less traveled. However, when traveled, its essential one has an open-mind with the ability for profound contemplation. I recollect my personal journey to enlightenment, as if it were yesterday. It was a magnificent summer day, the weather was stunning, an unusually cool 70-degrees, with no clouds in the sky. The phone rang, it was my father, asking if my husband and I could help him with an immediate need. Quickly thinking back in time, I pondered the minimal times my father ever asked for help, and realized it was only once, until now. I quickly responded with a “yes, what can we do”. I could hear my father struggling to get the words out and he said “I need you to pick up your grandfather in Utah, he is very ill, and drive him back to Wisconsin”. With no hesitation I said “I will leave here in two hours”. It was 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon, on April 22, 2012, when my husband and I gathered all the necessary provisions and loaded down our Ford Excursion bound for Utah. Not much was said between us, we knew the task at hand could possibly be insurmountable and we needed to go with open-mind and profound contemplation of what lied ahead, on this 3,200-mile journey. As we drove through Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska the weather cooperated, making the drive throughout the night non-challenging.
