Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743 in Albemarle County, Virginia. During his life he accomplished many things and now is one of the most well-known presidents in history. People associated Jefferson with being the spokesmen for democracy. In addition, he signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Jefferson was also the first Secretary of State, the second Vice President, and the third President of the United States. During John Adam’s presidential term Jefferson served as his vice president until 1800 when he decided to run in the next election. He became president on March 4th, 1801 and served in office till March 4th, 1809. As far as political parties go, Jefferson was a part of the Democratic Republican’s and his supporters mainly believed that the government should have limited control. Thomas Jefferson lived with his mother Jane Randolph Jefferson and his father, Peter Jefferson, who was a farmer, a surveyor and cartographer. Peter was well known for making the first accurate map of the Virginia. When Jefferson was three years old, his father took him on a fifty-mile horseback ride along with the rest of his family through the woods to their new home on a plantation in Virginia. Once they arrived, Jefferson spent the next six years with his parents and his three siblings. At age nine, he began boarding school until he was sixteen.
