When I first started out in school I could tell from the beginning that it was not going to be a strong suit of mine. Just because I could not perform at the “average” level or simply the fact that I could not take a test without having a major anxiety attack, gave me the preconception that I was doomed for the rest of my educational career. This discouraged me from trying on several occasions. After I discovered that I am a visual learner, I was able to turn the tables around. I found that there were ways to make things work in my favor. This was also achieved by Temple Grandin and Mike Rose. On one hand in Temple Grandin’s passage “My Mind is a Web Browser” we, as the readers, are able to analyze her unconventional thought process due to her autism. On the other hand in Mike Rose’s passage “Blue Collar Brilliance” we receive an insight into his personal beliefs about the working class. Despite the author’s different purposes for each passage, they both contain aspects of the visual learning process in action. I have the intention to follow in Grandin and Rose’s respective paths and utilize my visual learning style to not only discover my personal interest but also create a successful career path. “My Mind is a Web Browser” and “Blue Collar Brilliance” contain several diverse types of learning styles but visual is the prominent type.
