Numerous South Korean medical professionals conducted tests and research resulting in the completion of a medical article titled as “The acceptable duration between occupational exposure to hepatitis B virus and hepatitis B immunoglobin injection: Results from a Korean nationwide, multicenter Study”. The topic covers a lot of differing subjects such as post exposure, effectiveness of certain drugs, among others, but to start out with; one of the more basic and general ideas of the article is regarding health care workers and their exposure to pathogens in their line of work in the medical field. These workers were specifically tested and examined for the Hepatitis-B Virus and the usage of Post-exposure prophylaxis.
Between the years 2005 and 2013 researchers from the Korean society of Chemotherapy had a total of 15 hospitals across South Korea voluntarily partake in the study. Five of these hospitals were located in Daegu, and four were in South Korea’s capital city, Seoul which is the most populated city of the 6 hospitals. The rest of the studies took place in Busan, Daejeon, Gyeonggi-do, and Gangwon-do. In the circumstance in which a health care worker is exposed to HBV, medical officials tried implementing a PEP (post exposure prevention) response within 24 hours of exposure to the virus. In the duration of these 24 hours, the potentially infected worker would receive an HBV vaccine along with an HBIG (hepatitis B immune globin) vaccine which helps produce antibodies…
