When I was in my pre teenage years, one of the biggest fads and must haves was a fur covered electronic robot called a Furby. A Furby was not just another toy, this was a toy which was capable of interacting with its owner. All of my friends had one and they always took them everywhere they went. Well here we are many years later and wouldn’t you know it, the Furby has made a comeback. Only now the Furby is more technologically advanced and comes with many more options and accessories. In an ad on Amazon for the Furby we see a room full of kids partying and a number of Furby’s in all different colors scattered throughout the room. This advertisement is a perfect example of how kids are being pressured to obtain certain material objects by wanting what every child wants, to be accepted. When you initially look at the image it is very clear who’s attention the advertisement is attempting to attract and that is the attention of the children. The image shows a bunch of kids dancing at a party and there are enough Furby’s in the picture for one to assume that each child has brought their own to the party. The advertiser’s want children to associate the Furby’s with having fun with their friends, especially since one of the selling points is the Furby’s are capable of interacting with one another.
