A Critique on the Thesis:
Shirley, C.C.S. (2004) The Relationship among Eating Attitudes, Slimming Behaviors and Perfectionism in a Non-Clinical Population, Hong Kong University e-theses data base

This paper is to critique a thesis titled The Relationship among Eating Attitudes, Slimming Behaviors and Perfectionism in a Non-Clinical Population by Shirley, C.C.S. (2004).This thesis can be found on the database of Hong Kong University. This report mentions the slimming pheromone in Hong Kong, and wants to find out whether those behaviors will develop into illness. And the introduction, literature review, objective, methods will be critiqued in this report.

And those hypotheses are related to the topic and it also brings up the objective of the report. There are listed out five objectives in this report which are between body dissatisfaction and disordered eating is significant in dieters but non-significant in non-dieters, restrained eating mediates the relationship between body dissatisfaction and disordered eating, maladaptive perfectionism moderates the relationship between body dissatisfaction and restrained eating, excessive exercise mediates the relationship between body dissatisfaction and disordered eating and maladaptive perfectionism moderates the relationship between body dissatisfaction and excessive exercise. The objectives are clear and ease to understand also it is related to the topic. However, there is no conceptual framework included in this report. A conceptual framework can let the readers have a clear mind map towards the reports. Since that the research also mentions there are different factors affecting eating disorder so adding a conceptual framework is preferred to have an easy understand mind map for the readers to understand the research concept in a whole view.
Method
Participants
The participant’s criteria are set as, women because eating disorders is more popular in women than men. Also participants aged 16 or above because this study aimed to examine the effects of dieting and exercise that were expose to the slimming advertisements.
